Our Goals

Our generations’ goals, in my eyes our generation goals should be to accept same sex marriage, and improve our educations system. Protest has been going on for few years now on the same sex marriage. However many people are against it and also many people who agree to accept same sex marriages. Sooner than later one will see same sex marriages in our communities. Many humans in the older generations  are against the same sex marriage because back in the days they were not exposed to such things. They also do not want to accept the fact that a typical family image has  change and is changing.  The image is changing because humans today are getting married with other humans form different backgrounds and ethnicities.  We all need to accept the fact that everyone has a different view of what a perfect family looks like and that is fine but that does not give the right for other humans to protest against the gay community and their view on a perfect family.
Since my major is liberal studies for one of my classes I am require to do community service as a teacher assistance. I am doing my hours at this school in Redwood City called Hoover Community schools. I can say that from just visiting the first day I knew it myself that these children are not getting an education like a child from Belmont would get. Working there for the last weeks has proven to me that our government really does need to get involve with our education. I really hope that in the future that we get more involve and really ask what is going on at these schools because I have heard very sad stories about a child’s education.

movement

On April 15, 2011 I spoke to the class about the day of silent, which after I spoke about what the day of silent means I felt very proud of myself. Do to the fact that if I was back in high school I would not have the strength to speak in front of my classmates of a gay movement . I was afraid to protest or speak up for myself because in high school so many teens make fun of each other and put others down. That feeling s very painful even though one is not getting hit psychically words can really damage a human.  Now that I’m in college I have not been scared to speak up for my rights. Also taking this history class has really open my eyes that one most do crazy things in life so that others respect you or give you the rights that one is fighting for.  The class went on with speaking about the gay community and religious beliefs. Being a member of the gay community and having many gay friends when speaking about religious believes many of them take it as a joke. However I was born into a catholic family and I do believe in god I do pray every night and I do believe that god loves me for who I’ am not for you I love. Many of my gay friends take religion as a joke because religious people see us as sinners and evil humans because we are going against the bible. That is way many of them do not believe in the bible because humans that are very religious see us as aliens. When in reality we are just humans try to live a happy and make our dreams come to like everyone else. It’s very heartbroken when religious people and our own family look down up on you and even ask you how do you live with yourself knowing that you’re doing something evil in gods eyes? I’m very glad that the government is bring educating every student in California about the gay history because we to are heroes.

Rock it like Barbie

.
I really enjoy how the author of this book opens up every chapter with an extremely interesting topic. The author does a good job making the reader start thinking about their opinion, on just the first paragraph. The start of chapter 24 speaks on a topic that I would have never thought that would be in a college text book which is Barbie. When one thinks about Barbie the first image that comes to one’s mind is a white very attractive doll with the perfect everything. However some parents in the United States do not see what a perfect doll can do to their child development. Children today mostly very young girls start to playing with Barbie’s at the age 5. They keep on playing with these toys until they grow out of them.  Even though they grow out of playing with these dolls these young girls’ even boys want to grow up and be as perfect as Barbie. One can say that the Barbie doll may affect little girls more because they  have the same features as a Barbie doll. Children being exposed to these dolls that have outrageous bodies can make a child want to have a perfect body just like their dolls or even dress up with very revealing clothing like their dolls. This issue continues with the fact that the Mac makeup Company started a line with the Barbie Company.  The makeup makes one look just like a Barbie which is what little girls today might really want to grow up to be a perfect Barbie.  The United States can influence a lot of countries but however some of those other countries see our influence very negative. For example in Iran they have to dolls called Sara and Dara which are suppose to replace Barbie. They started these dolls so that they can have a more positive influence on children on like Barbie.

The  chapter 23 was about countries getting their independence from the British. However throughout the reading they speak about two humans who really touched the world with their actions and worlds. Nelson Mandela and Mohandas Gandhi this two men lived in two different time periods however they were both wonderful leaders that wanted the best for their countries. Nelson Mandela was a strong man whom wanted to live in a society where everyone’s voice was heard.  Mandela’s dream was to live in a harmony type of world and also wanted everyone to be equally.  Mandela felt like the government was not doing a great job, he wanted to overthrow his countries government because of this thought he was sent to prison for twenty-seven years.  In 1990 he was released from prison and in 1994 he become the president of his country. This man followed he’s dreams and accomplished them and never did he hurt someone. Gandhi to was a great leader just like Mandela, Gandhi started is whole live at a very young age getting married at age thirteen. This man today is very looked up to because he was very shy and very small but that did not stop him from fighting for his rights. Gandhi was a man that help many people get their freedom. Nelson and Gandhi are two leaders that people should look up today because both of them were heard that without going to war. All they did was fight with words. I find it very interesting how I’m very sure that Nelson looked up to Gandhi and it crazy how Martin Luther King JR looked up two both of them. It seem like they live within each other these great wonderful leaders.
